About
It all started when…
Forever Green was "sprouted" from a second generation family farm that was looking to do something innovative. The farm is located in the center of British Columbia in the Bulkley Valley in Vanderhoof. The town of Vanderhoof is primarily a forestry, mining and agricultural fueled community.
The family farm of 40 years had seen surrounding farms and other multi-generation farms come to a end due to lack of financial viability and no interest from the next generation. It seemed that other opportunities needed to be pursued in order to create a positive change from crops like hay which tend to have a highly variable market price. The hemp vision of the family farm now needed to become a reality. The farm was able to start testing the crop conditions in the north to see if industrial hemp was a viable crop for the area.
The beginning included trial crops with hemp varieties, along with experimenting with equipment testing its ability to handle the intensely strong industrial hemp plant. After splitting equipment into pieces or having equipment catch fire, the farm found a purpose built hemp harvester that had been sitting in a barn in Ontario for 6 years. With this stroke of luck the farm was able to take on some more acres and allow for on-field cutting and handling of the industrial hemp in a more manageable way.
The following years involved a steep learning curve in soil preparation, crop management and proper inputs to get a suitable stand of industrial hemp. As time went on, better skills and knowledge were obtained to better understand how to cut, ret and bale the hemp crop. The next step was to work towards a processing line that would allow Forever Green to decorticate, or primary process, the industrial hemp. This was to ensure the product would be accepted by the market for a multitude of businesses, customers and entrepreneurs looking to pursue a product type within hemp.
Forever Green and the family farm began to find themselves in a position to be able to help some other hemp farmers looking to pursue the fiber and biomass markets for industrial hemp. Forever Green discovered another Company with similar ambitions in furthering hemp's viability as a commercially sustainable crop. Laumetris, based in Europe, had recently started producing on-field hemp harvesting equipment. With this, Forever Green formed a partnership to distribute their line of equipment(www.hempcutter.com).
Forever Green is now producing and growing its customer base as a leader in hemp processing and farming in British Columbia.
